Emergency Response Planning

The BC Renal Agency and the regional health authority programs have jointly developed a Provincial Renal Emergency Management and Business Continuity Plan, designed to address all types of hazards (natural, man-made or health emergency) that might be experienced by the agency and its partners across the province.

The plan is posted on the PROMIS database portal. Please note you must be a registered user to access the database.

The plan is based on the Health Authority BC Emergency Response Management System, and is in compliance with all applicable legislation and regulations. Where possible, it incorporates the Canadian Standards Association Z1600 standard as well as expectations required by the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation.

The plan is designed to:

  • ensure hazard, risk and vulnerability assessments are conducted at regular intervals to identify potential impacts that either BCPRA or its partner facilities may experience, and to implement mitigating measures where possible to diminish widespread dislocation of clinical services and to support operational activities;
  • detail the structures required to ensure an organized, comprehensive and effective provincial response to any major incident or circumstance that is, or can become, a major emergency or disaster that exceeds the capabilities of a regional health authority response; and
  • support collaborative emergency management planning between BCPRA, its health authority partners and patients to ensure an integrated and comprehensive approach to preparedness, response, business continuity practices and recovery.
