What is the purpose of the tool?

The guideline document was developed to support delivery of standardized care across BC Kidney Clinics for people living with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD).  It includes guidelines on patient follow-up, ordering of investigations, screening for complications, and standardized imaging protocols.

Were you involved in developing the tool?

Yes.

What were some highlights and challenges of developing the tool?

Ensuring there was adequate review and that relevant feedback from all stakeholders involved was incorporated into the related documents. Ongoing feedback is being collected as we roll out.

How have you used the tool in your practice?

We have learned from feedback collected from our ADPKD clinical champions in each of the health authority renal programs across the province that the guidelines act as a reference tool for staff.

What benefits have you seen after using the tool?

We are currently developing a full evaluation plan for the ADPKD initiative. Through the evaluation, we will have a better understanding of whether the guidelines have improved knowledge, awareness and comfort in caring for patients living with ADPKD and whether there have been improvements with delivery of standardized care.

Additional Comments:

Many companion documents have been developed along with the guideline, including staff resources and clinical tools as well as patient/family resources. All of these support dissemination and implementation of the guideline.
