On Canada Day, Dr. Adeera Levin, Executive Director of the BC Provincial Renal Agency, was appointed to the Order of Canada for her tireless work on behalf of people with kidney disease, both nationally and internationally.
Through her broad range of research and academic work, her executive leadership role with the BC Renal Agency and numerous national and international appointments, Dr. Levin has contributed substantially to the global body of knowledge regarding kidney disease, has introduced evidence-informed changes to clinical practice and public health policy, and has helped design a sustainable provincial model of renal care delivery that has been lauded around the world. She has nearly 300 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has mentored the next generation of researchers, academics and clinicians. Throughout her career, she has held a singular focus – to improve health outcomes and quality of life for kidney patients.
Dr. Levin is the Executive Director of the BC Provincial Renal Agency, Professor and Head of the Division of Nephrology in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC and a Scientist at the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences. She has held a range of national and international appointments, including Secretary General of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), and now President of ISN.
